My LG Viewty KU990i Headache

Ok well my problem started when my eldest son finley said that he wanted a lg veiwty ku990 for his upcomming eleventh birthday, my wife lynsey and i talked about it and said we saw no problems with him having this phone even tho at £127.99 it was not cheap.

So anyway my son and i set about looking at all the video and txt reveiws that we could find over the internet, we found loads and after a couple of hours surfing we decided that we would go to the mobile phone shop and look at it for ourselves, we went to the local O2 shop and got the saleswoman to give us a demo of the phone, finley said he was happy and we left.

So two days later my wife and i go and by this phone we paid cash for it and got it on O2 pay and go (as thats the network we all use). We get home with this phone and as always being "dad" i get the rights to open it up and do my own little investigations.

Anyway i open it up and notice straight away that there is  1, no stylus, 2, no usb cable, 3, no pc suite software disc.

So my wife double checked the box but still there was none to be found, so i phoned the O2 shop up and after waiting what seemed like almost an hour i got through, i explained my concerns and was told to come back into the shop with the phone, so back to the shop i took the phone and i basicly had to wait 20mins to get seen, so as you can imagine i was getting a little miffed.

So this salesman come out and first tells me that we have just bought the KU990i Veiwty (Lite) not as we thought the KU990 Veiwty, so ok we have the newer version result in my book but whats the catch?, well he says this new one does not come with the stylus!! its apparently a better touchscreen now so the stylus is not needed, well i have to say i thought he was full of crap but i thought, ok i can live with that finley already said he wasnt gonna use the stylus anyway.

So where is my usb cable and my software disc? i ask, only to be told that when O2 bought the phones from LG they decided not to buy the cable and discs and include them in there packages (cheap tossers). so basicly i would have to buy the cable extra and download the software which for already paying £130 is just taking the piss imo.

The guy in the O2 shop was a g0od bloke and he said he would give be a usb cable he had spare out back for free and he said i would just have to download the software from LG, this sounded fine to me so i packed up my stuff and left the shop.

Ok so i go back home fire up the internet and proceed to track down the LG pc suite for the ku990i, ok well to cut an even longer story short, its not yet available i could only find the one for the ku990 and when ever i tired to run that one it tells me that its the wrong application for my model of phone, so after trying for ages i phone lg support,  after they hung up on me 3 times i got through.

i talked the bloke thru my problems and what drivers i had downloaded so on and so forth, and he told me that everything i had done was right they just had not yet released the pc suite that is compatible with the new lg veiwty ku990i lite and i would just have to keep checking the site untill they release the update.

So basicly i have a camera phone that will not let me take anything off the memeroy what so ever all we can access is the micro sd card as its reconised as a mass storage device.

Now if you was thinking about buying one of these phones let me just tell you as a phone & camera its really good and as yet we have found no problems with it, but if your gonna buy one DONT buy from O2 and DONT buy for at least another 2 months unless your happy not being able to sync to your pc.

Hope this helps somone, Phil.

  1. Hey there,

It's not the case of 02. This model just doesn't have all the additional stuff included. I bought this phone yesterday in Poland and I got the same problem as you (your son). Right now the only way to transfer data from the phone is bluetooth or micro sd card (which you probably don't have, as it wasn't included to the set).

  6. I was about to buy this phone until found out about lack of software. I have found "LG PC Suite for LG Viewty KU990i " on mininova, comments say it works. Maybe someone who has the phone can try it and tell as if it syncs with outlook.

  8. yep just got one for my wife from Three - all there was in the box: Phone, Battery & Charger.

Headphone fitting is non-standard as it uses the same socket as charger and usb leads. can't use radio - no headphones, can't transfer music videos (either way) does appear to be a bit cheapskate not to include such items...

  9. Firt of all I would like say a huge Nokia fan.
So you can imagine my discust at buying the Viewty because of the price and to find its not even worth £115.00

No cable, no disk, LG's web site is shite.

I will never again waist my money on anything that does not have Nokia on it!!

  11. DIRECT DOWNLOAD FOR LG PC SUITE III (LG KP 990i)

Hi! I managed to find a direct download link for the LG PC Suite III, the software used to transfer files to the LG KP 990i. Of course, you need to have the USB cable in order to transfer files.

I have the cable because is the same one used in the LG KP501. My daughter has this phone.

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9GGHJK91

You also have the possibilty to transfer the files via bluetooth if your PC has a bluetooth interface. In this case, you don't need to buy the USB cable.

  15. Hey Phil

I too was tearing my hair out wondering where I had mislaid the disc two weeks after purchasing the phone. I soon found out that I had not been given one in the first place.

    I WAS DISGUSTED!

Thanks to the helpful information I found on your blog from you and your readers, I downloaded the pc suite and have just (happily) transferred my photos over to my PC.

Thank you, I will be sure to call back and check on your future postings.

  18. I've got my Viewty to connect using a simple Linux operating system on the computer. Just plug in the phone after setting USB connection preferences to mass storage device and I could transfer files etc just as if the Viewty was an external hard drive.

There are many of these Linux operating system that run live from a CD and don't install themselves on your PC's hard drive. If nothing else, they are handy for troubleshooting your PC but I've found them able to recognise lots of devices without having to install specific drivers. One such is www.ubuntu.com.

  21. I've downloaded PC Suite III (3.1.26.20090427) from the LG site (via a link found via Google...couldn't find it on the LG site anywhere). Anyway I can use the Music Sync option, and it looks like the Mass storage will work with a micro SD card installed (which I don't have yet). However the 'Data service' doesn't work...PC Suite connects initially and then disconnects...it looks like it's purposely disabled. Also there is no 'PC Suite' option on the phone, though on disconnecting Music sync in PC Suite a message comes up that suggests Data service and PC Suite options are one and the same. All I really want is to be able to see the phone as a disk drive so I can copy files to the internal memory. Do I need PC Suite at all?

  27. Hi,
Just to let you know, I bought my LG Viewety Smart off the internet as a Telstra Unlocked Phone (Australia), and it came with a CD and Cable, but no stylus. This goes to show that maybe the O2 guy was telling the truth.
